What Intuit's Stop Sell Decision Means for Existing QuickBooks Desktop and ICAT Users

March 6, 2024

Intuit recently announced that after July 31, 2024, they will no longer sell new subscriptions of the following products:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll

Several of our ICAT customers have reacted to this announcement with an inference that they will no longer be able to use QuickBooks and ICAT. QuickBooks and ICAT will continue to be available to all existing customers of these products after this date.

Intuit made two very important points in their announcement that should not be misconstrued. The first is that, for existing users of the QuickBooks products listed above, nothing changes. Existing customers will be able to renew their license subscriptions, and Intuit will continue to provide support services, security updates, and product updates for existing customers after July 31, 2024. The announcement made by Intuit was a stop sell announcement, not a sunset, meaning that new customers for these products will not be accepted after July 31, 2024.

The second point made by Intuit in their announcement is that QuickBooks Enterprise is not impacted. Intuit intends to continue offering this desktop version of QuickBooks to new and existing customers.

Despite all the chatter speculating that QuickBooks Desktop is going away, the actual takeaway from Intuit’s announcement is that existing users of the products listed above will be able to continue using them, with all of the support to which they have become accustomed, and the desktop version of QuickBooks will continue to be available for future customers at the QuickBooks Enterprise level.

ICAT Systems will continue supporting Government Contractors using QuickBooks Desktop with our ICAT software, and through our training and support services.
